Avery Samael’s Ale

Avery Brewing Co: Samael’s Ale (English Barley Wine), 15.31% abv, 12oz Beer Advocate B+ / B- (Bros)
A: Pours a deep orange/amber with brown hues with a creamy head that sticks to the glass but fades fast
S: Heavy oak with subtle cherries in the background, pretty damn boozy
T: Thick, malty, sugary that borders cloying. Mild hops in the middle with layers of caramel. Hot and boozy on the finish. Hints of oak linger in the backdrop with vanilla and nutmeg rounding out the flavors.
M: Heavy, viscous, and syrupy with a creaminess to it.
D: This is a sipper. Abv a side it’s not your dads beer. Easily shareable as an after dinner drink (great replacement to ports and cognacs) but if they like full bodied beer and barrel aged beer, this is THE one.
*Food Pairings: Lamb Poutine, Duck Poutine add Kielbasa, Foie Gras, Tri-Tip add Steak, and Smores.
